Information gain
If an AI can rebuild your page from ten others, it has no reason to cite you.
19,3 → 25,4generative-engine visibility when adding statistics (GEO study, KDD 2024)
24,7with fluency optimisation alone
≈ 5sources cited on average per AI Overview (HubSpot, 2026)
Five ways to add something new
- Original data: survey, logs, benchmark, dated test.
- Lived experience: client case, quantified failure.
- A clear stance, with its limits.
- Extractable structure: 2-sentence answer first, detail after.
- Named sources and dates: AI checks, and so do humans.
Hygiene: several viral stats (“99% of AI Overviews cite the top 10”) have no traceable source. Only cite what links to a study.
Measuring the gain
Compare your page with the top five results and the sources AI cites: list what only you provide. If the list is empty, the page has no reason to be cited. Then see strategy and the leaks for the quality angle.
